Job Description
The Project Lead will manage and support compliance projects for clients in the chemical processing, pharmaceutical, and energy industries. This role requires expertise in interpreting and applying relevant laws, regulations, and standards to ensure project adherence to federal and state requirements. The Project Lead will oversee safety program development, compliance audits, and regulatory reporting, while ensuring effective communication and project execution.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage compliance projects from development to implementation phases, including but not limited to safety program development, compliance audits, process hazards analysis, and dispersion and consequence modeling.
- Interpret and apply relevant laws, regulations, and standards to ensure project compliance with Federal and State regulations associated with chemical process safety (e.g., OSHA Process
- Safety Management, EPA Risk Management Plan, California Accidental Release Prevention Program).
- Maintain a strong background in compliance and be adept at reading and interpreting regulations by staying up-to-date with changes in laws, regulations, and industry standards.
- Provide expert guidance and training to team members on compliance matters.
- Prepare and submit compliance reports to regulatory authorities as required.
- Review client documents such as piping and instrumentation diagrams, chemical inventory lists, and operating and maintenance procedures.
- Delegate and review tasks related to the creation and updates of technical documentation for safety and risk management programs through collaboration with other project engineers in the company to ensure successful project completion.
- Perform other engineering calculations related to process safety.
- Serve as the primary liaison between clients and project teams, ensuring effective communication and project execution.
- Provide expert guidance to clients regarding process safety and risk management, addressing any questions or concerns.
- Prepare comprehensive scopes of work for projects.
- Collaborate with the company to identify problem areas and implement product and service improvements based on feedback and metrics.
- Keep supervisors informed of work status, workload, problems, and progress using approved technologies (e.g., Asana, Slack, and Email).
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications and Experience:
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in leading projects and/or in safety, environmental, or quality compliance roles.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering.
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
- Flexible with working on a shifting schedule (5-10% of the time).
- Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Proven ability to work collaboratively with other team members.
- Strong commitment to professional development.
- Proficient with Office 365 applications and Google Suite.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret complex documents.
- Ability to respond effectively to sensitive inquiries or complaints.
- Ability to write presentations and articles using original or innovative techniques or style; make effective and persuasive arguments and presentations on controversial or complex topics to top management, public groups, and boards of directors.
- Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, etc.) in its most difficult phases.
- Ability to apply engineering first principles and advanced levels of probability and statistics.
- Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems.
- Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.
